GLEBE

Glebe is a vibrant inner Sydney suburb located close to Darling Harbour, the CBD and the University of Sydney. The main street, Glebe Point Road, which features funky shops, cafés and colourful Saturday markets, runs from the start of Parramatta Road up to Rozelle and Blackwattle Bays.

The name Glebe means a land grant of 400 acres, originally given in 1790 to Reverend Richard Johnson, Chaplain of the First Fleet. Settlement in the area started in the late 1820’s and many of the grand Victorian homes, Federation houses and worker’s cottages remain today.

Glebe retains a village atmosphere and a strong community spirit, reflecting its long history of activism and artistic and intellectual pursuits. The Broadway Shopping Centre on the corner of Glebe Point Road and Broadway is home to retail outlets and a cinema, while Sydney’s renowned Fish Markets are just minutes away.  The Light Rail link and frequent buses allow for easy access to the city and surrounding areas.
